Palette:
Titanium White
Mars Black
Bright Red
Primary Yellow
Phthalo Blue
Brushes:
1” Flat, ½” Flat, Small Detail
Background:
Wet your canvas with your large brush and water. Use the same brush and paint a thin wash of white all over the background.
Mix a small pile of light blue (white+small amount of blue) and streak that along the top, upper side, and opposite lower side.
Wash your brush and mix a small amount of orange (yellow+small amounts of red and white). Brush tiny amounts of orange through the background taking care to not mix it with the light blue. Continue to work with the large brush and use yellow through the background, again avoiding the light blue.
Paint your rims 🙂
Barn:
Mix a pile of dark red (red+tiny amount of black) with your medium size brush. Outline your barn. No wrong way to do this. Create rectangles for the loft and alley doors. Paint “x” shaped lines for each door. Fill barn with red (not the dark red we mixed - regular red). Continue red to the rim.
Continue to work with your medium size brush and fill loft area with black. Use medium flat brush or detail brush to outline loft frame, and alley doors. Drag small amounts of black from under the roof and loft.
Use a card or brush and white to create some texture in the loft. Add snow to roof, and brush small bits of highlight through the barn. Finish the barn by brushing more red or shadow as needed.
Tree:
Mix a dark green: (yellow+blue+small amount of black). Use a medium brush and create trunk and stipple in branches. There is no wrong way to do this, relax into it and tap as you create an elongated triangle.
Snow:
Use your medium brush and scrub white along the base of the barn, against the tree, and through the ground. Stipple white onto the tree.
Bunnies:
Mix a brown: (yellow+red+tiny amount of black) Use the small brush and brown to paint in the bunny shapes - think snowmen plus ears :) Stipple in white for their tails. Paint their tracks by stamping the length of the small brush twice then adding two dots. These should look like exclamation marks. Zigzag a bit of shadow.
Finish by zigzagging a bit of shadow with dark green, and sign the painting. You Did It!!
Make sure to snap a pic and send it my way!!
